Simple 7 words. Hard to gain and hard to give. Unless you're someone that people treat you with high regards. Lets look at it on different aspects.

In order to gain respect, give people respect first. You can't expect someone to respect you IF you are speaking to the person in an inpertinent way. Being nice gives you simple basic respect from people. Don't believe me?

If people are talking back to you. In a manner that he is shouting on the top of his voice and he is showing signs that he really wanted to rebut what you've just said. It shows. This person don't think you deserve that certain respect. But ask yourself if you deserve the respect from him. Whether have you give your respect to him? I have eyes and as well as ears.

I hate hearing unpleasant things. I think it's time to change a few miscellaneous actions. Not to forget to build a section it requires UNITY. If you think by scolding, punishing and wining over little matters its gonna bring up there. NO.

I'm not saying you can't be evil, but it requires that perfect timing as well. SCOLD only when you think its essential. Everything needs time to grow or learn. I was there once. It took quite long for me to gain this simple seven words. I've always go according to what i believe it's deserved to be scolded and what is not.

You reap what you sow. Simple. WANT RESPECT? give your respect first. Basic etiquettes will determine your level of respect people give you as well. If you think i'm wrong, prove it to me. Think what i've just said are nonsensical then just post another better one.
